Aquarius
: A sign of the Times
Vol. 7, No. 2, July 1999
Author Joy Lynn Freeman is both nurturing
and inspiring as she guides you on your quest for personal truth in
her book Express Yourself - Discover Your Inner Truth, Creative Self,
and the Courage To Let It Out. Her approach to cultivating
creative expression is deep. "The more we know our truth
and are able to express it responsibly to ourselves and others, the
more our lives begin to creatively express who we truly are, rather
than some idea of what we should be. " The three parts of
this book progressively deepen intellectual understanding of the
transformational process, while the "Try Its" that conclude
each chapter affect change on other levels and encourage integration
of mind/body/spirit. The "Try Its" are effective and
often fun exercises taken from a wide range of modalities,. She
includes some wonderful energy release rituals, breathing and
expressive dance exercises, plus offers cognitive adventures with
future-pacing sentences completions and exploratory question. Try
them all, try them fearlessly and unleash your truly creative spirit.
And when your world is sunless, listen to her musical ventures, a
flavorful CD titles Let It Shine. Each of the 17 mostly upbeat
tracks express themes explored in her book. I tried to put it on
as background music, but caught myself really listening each
time. They lyrics are inspiring and the movement of the
different grooves is interesting because several different vocalists
are featured. One jazzy smooth cut feels like a soothing hug
("Surrender") another is a heartfelt gospel ("Who Am
I"), and for a quick minute, you can Afro-boogie to "Love
What I do." Let It Shine is my new mental Windex.
